a new mirror database minimally requires taking a full backup of the principal database and a

subsequent log backup and restoring them both onto the mirror server instance, using WITH

NORECOVERY.

To Prepare an Existing Mirror Database to Restart Mirroring

Caution

This feature will be removed in a future version of SQL Server. Avoid using this feature in

new development work, and plan to modify applications that currently use this feature.

For high availability, use Always On availability groups instead.
